Under Article 78 of the Money Gaming Ordinance (VGS), free demo versions of online money games must have the same game characteristics as the corresponding money game. This applies in particular to the simulated payout rate.
Scope
The provision applies to operators that offer online money games and, in parallel, provide free games for advertising purposes. These have the same format as a money game but do not require a wager. The article refers to Articles 74 and 75 of the Money Gaming Act (BGS).
Requirements for the demo version
- Identical game characteristics: The characteristics of the demo version must match those of the corresponding money game.
- Identical simulated payout rate: The demo version may not use a different payout rate.
- Realistic representation of the chances of winning: According to the official explanatory notes, demo versions should allow users to try out and practice without creating a false impression of the chances of winning.
